Elective Season
After a beautiful weekend in the Jurassic Coast, Monday started off quite foggy. The clouds just stayed around all-day, I definitely prefer the sunny days!
'Twas a long Monday - we had lectures until 1900, but the Powderpuff Girls got some tea and hot cocoa to end the day!
On Tuesday, my hype woman, Sukriti, insisted on a photo-op in the biz school because you have to find joy during the days that have six hours of lectures.
Wednesday night we had to sign up for our electives for next term. I am hoping to get into one of the capped classes, so I had some flashbacks to undergrad as I panicked and manically tried to be the fastest at selecting my electives. To be determined if I get the class I want, so keep your fingers crossed!
On Thursday the Judge Business School Christmas tree was in place and shining bright! After classes, I went to the Queens' gym and then to dinner at the dining hall.
While sitting alone I had a flashback to my freshman year of undergrad. I absolutely hated going to Sbisa (the A&M dining hall) by myself, I would always try to get someone to join me. The same was true of the rec center, I never wanted to do these very simple things by myself. It felt weird back to be alone, were the other students judging me? Thinking about that made me laugh. Arguably I'm too comfortable now being alone and participating in activities by myself. I can't help but wonder what I'm going to look back on in a decade and ask myself why was I so concerned about something so trivial.
Is this what growing up is? Looking back on your past and marveling both at how silly you were and also how far you've come?
On Friday, Taylor, Ian, Lina, and I all went to Ely for the day. Ely is a short drive from Cambridge and home to the oldest cathedral in the country! It's been in operation since 673 - WHAT! There was also a Christmas market so we had hot cider and hot roast to walk through the stalls. Such a fun start to the holiday season. Auggie had surgery this week so I made sure to get him a present to give him when I'm home in a month.
That evening Brandon, Val, and I went to the Northumberland Telescope to get trained by the Astronomical Society. This telescope was almost the telescope credited with discovering Neptune, but Cambridge failed to recognize Neptune until after it was discovered (again) in Berlin. It's an old-school telescope and that is part of its charm - a rope pulley system to move the roof, a literal trash bag covering the lens, but it's worked for centuries, so why mess with it. And yes, I probably will cry when I operate it by myself for the first time to look at the moon.
Then after that, a big group went to check out the KGB. King's Graduate Bar - cash only, run by volunteer grad students at King's College, and a super fun time.
Saturday proved to be incredibly productive. I worked out, got brunch at Queens', and even finished my first final essay for the term! I also ended up crashing at 2130 because I was exhausted.
Sunday started with gals church service at St. John's (still stunning), another Queens' brunch, and more school work. But ended with seeing Cambridge turn on the Christmas lights!
The countdown to the end of the term [i.e., finals] has begun. Wish us all luck!
