September Recap
I skipped the blog last week as there was not much worth reporting, although I did have the chance to watch Moulin Rouge at the Kennedy Center. The building itself is amazing.
This past week, I was sent to Kent, Washington, for a work-together week at Blue's headquarters. The weather there reminded me of the UK, and in many ways, it felt like being in a warm blanket to be back in a jumper daily. While I can't share what I was working on, it was so cool to be around a production floor again and see some really impressive engineering. I was able to meet with several folks and have some really good conversations while I was there too, I even ran into an old York coworker who works at Blue in Denver now - was so nice to catch up!
While we were sitting at dinner, we decided to be a smidge spontaneous and buy cheap tickets to Matt Rife that night. He was performing at the DAR Constitution Hall, and we went there after dinner. The queue was crazy so I asked some girls if this was the queue for Matt Rife and they invited us to join them in the queue, always fun to chat with some new people. When we finally go to the door, we were turned away as the tickets were for the Saturday show. I was mortified! I felt so bad that I had purchased the wrong ticket date. Jessica was down to roll with the punches so we bought some new tickets on StubHub, I had her verify I got the date right first, and then the SAME THING HAPPENED. The tickets were for Saturday. I went back and checked my original purchase, it had been for Friday, and we were sent the wrong-dated tickets. Scammed twice! It was minutes before the show was going to begin and Jess convinced me to just go to the box office to try for tickets, I was very over it at this point, and we were given COMPED tickets! We were in a box on the left side of the stage - we could see Matt so easily! The show provided some good laughs and an even better overall story. StubHub has refunded the tickets so we came out ahead in the end #girlmath.
Sunday started with breakfast tacos and then we met Rebecca at Union Station and made our way to the zoo! The pandas at the Smithsonian Zoo are heading back to China at the end of the year, and the zoo was throwing them a goodbye party. The lions were chilling when we got to their area, but then one of the guys decided he was displeased about something and started roaring. Pretty sure he was telling his human he was hungry, after a few minutes the other lion joined in and it was LOUD. We walked the whole zoo until it rained too much to keep going. Another lesson that it pays to check the weather before leaving your front door.
