Good Enough

What a week! I finished packing up my room here in Cambridge. Incredibly bittersweet. It put me in a weird funk for sure.

On Tuesday I explored the Whipple Museum and tried a new gelato place in Cambridge. Ran into some MBAs also getting snacks and ended the night with a trip to Jesus.

Rebecca really appreciated her shout-out in last week's blog :)

Judge posted a throwback from Michaelmas and it was funny to look back and see just how much this has changed us in a few short months.

Wednesday was quiet; I enjoyed walking around Cambridge and soaking it all in.

On Thursday I submitted my final essay...whoa. Then I trained to London to celebrate Jimmy's birthday at Electric Shuffle!

Dom, Jimmy, and Meredith were kind enough to let me stay the night at their flat! Friday we cooked breakfast tacos, and before I knew it, I was heading to the train to go to Stansted for a trip to Copenhagen!

Emily had the genius idea of another trip before I move back stateside and suggested Copenhagen. I haven't seen Emily since June so it was lovely to catch up! Friday afternoon these two toads found some delicious pitas to enjoy in a park. From there we found a playground and tested our skills. After the park, we found some ice cream and walked through more of the city. Copenhagen is so calm. Feels unique in comparison to other European cities, especially during the summer. There weren't too many tourists or anything, it was just so nice.

We rented cycles on Saturday and zoomed through the city. Em is a cycler extraordinaire and fearless navigator of the day. One of our first stops was the colorful houses on the water. After that, we went into the town square where there was a beach volleyball tournament happening. There was also a booth from 7Up where Emily won some swag! We saw the Little Mermaid statue...with the hoards of tourists. From there, we visited Freetown Christiania, the commune in the middle of Copenhagen. Very interesting to see. Em found a great spot for lunch along the water that had lots of different food stalls, so we tried a few things. Most importantly, we had homemade ranch.

Sunday was short but sweet. We slept in and walked to the water and enjoyed all the views. So grateful for this friendship. Emily and I immediately hit it off when we met in September and I don't think I would have survived this year without her!

Found this poem in our Airbnb. It hit a lot of chords. I don't think I'm ready to face what is coming in less than ten days. Maybe we'll dive into that in next week's blog, but until then, enjoy!

Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
