Highway to the Danger Zone

Warning you now that there will be a lot of photos this week.

Monday started with an upgrade to Polaris on my flight, I slept the whole way and ran to class as soon as I landed! The day ended with a gal dinner at Las Iguanas - always fun to catch up with the lovely women in my class!

While in Texas, I grabbed a bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, something that can't be found on this side of the Atlantic. Naturally, had to introduce some classmates to the honored tradition of dipping your pizza in ranch dressing. Hidden Valley was impressed. We also did some fun senior superlatives to cap it off. Some highlights: most likely to join the circus, most likely to plan a party and not show up, most likely to wear and eat trash, tallest, most likely to give their baby wine, most likely to sh*t their pants. We're a fun group!

Wednesday was a full day! We had group presentations for our Operations Management class. I have never seen so many people checked out at the same time. Afterward, a group of Dynamic Ladies braved a Queens' punt down the river Cam. Emily captained the punt all the way to St. John's and as we turned around to come back I briefly took over. We may or may not have ended up in a tree while I was punting. It's difficult to say.

After that, we went back to Judge for the final MBA talk of the year! Karina moderated while, Rushabh, Shashank, Priya, Bharath, and I all sat on the panel. Somehow ended up talking about space toilets so I think I really hit it out of the park...

Next was our weekly happy hour at The Anchor! We sat outside this week and it was just so nice. Enjoyed some Popeyes after too.

Thursday was Chad's birthday - so 30-something of us went to Jesus College for a nice formal dinner and hit the Jesus bar afterward too.

Friday ended with another social event at the Tivoli. We had a nice buffet and a rooftop all to ourselves! There was even some putt-putt to add a little competition for the group.

Saturday was Judge May Ball day. To say that I've been working towards this day is an understatement. So excited to see this event come to fruition.

Before starting the MBA programme I was pretty adamant to my parents and friends that I was not going to apply to be social chair. I have a tendency to be this person wherever I go - but it's always a different name, Class Captain, Cruise Director, etc. My line of thought was that I could just be a person who just attends events, I didn't need to be the one organizing them - we have so little time here and I was worried it would take away too much time from the experience.

When the Business School Club was finally announced, I figured it couldn't hurt to throw my name in the hat. Then when it came time for the hustings I was in the hospital, so I assumed there was no chance I would get one of the social chair positions. I'm not sure why my classmates trusted me with this responsibility, but I am so grateful for it.

Jimmy and I have spent countless hours over the past few weeks coordinating, putting out fires, and scheming ways for everyone to have a fantastic time at this May Ball. Organizing an event like this for 300 people is no small feat, but somehow we managed to pull it off.

The IWM Duxford was a fantastic venue, and this lil space gal was excited to have an event in a room full of old planes - even a Concorde!

I was feeling a little stressed as the event started, it took too long to get people checked in, in my opinion. Cody noticed and hugged me and told me to take a breath, that it was all okay, and that really helped. Plus the glass of champagne that came after didn't hurt either.

I have to say a huge thank you to my classmates. So many came up to me to say thank you, to make sure my glass was never empty, etc. It warmed my heart and it was so kind to see that they were making sure that I was able to enjoy the event too.

Table 17, I love you all. Between the toasts, the shots, and the games, I couldn't imagine a more fun group. Thank you all - Emily, Hadeel, Dom, Cody, Tommaso, Rushabh, Nia, Brandon, and Abdul.

We got to explore a Concorde, watch the nose tip, and dance the night away.

I hope a fun night was had by all!

Husting Speech

October 27, 2022

I'm here because I know how to make big bubbles.

We have all spent our life in bubbles, from our bubbles back home, to uni, to work and extracurriculars.

Heck, bubbles have already formed within our programme.

I have applied for both the social chair and the alumni chair because I think both roles are about making bubbles.

The first is focused on us, this year, and our relationships and experiences in Cambridge.

The latter is focused on what comes next and how we take the bubbles that we formed here into the wider Cambridge network.

So imagine this.

A champagne glass - representing our year here at Cambridge.

The champagne poured in is filled with the people that we meet and the experiences that we are going to have.

That glass is now filled with bubbles.

As those bubbles rise to the top of the glass they bump into each other and they combine.

I want to help with that.

It’s week 5 and I’m still meeting people for the first time. We’ve got to change that!

I want to bring people together from different bubbles to make an out-of-this-world experience.

If selected, I guarantee I will do just that.

No matter what happens, I look forward to getting to know everyone and sharing a glass of Cambridge with you all.

Cheers

Hopefully, I have been able to meet my campaign promises :)
